United Benefice of Leatherhead & Mickleham
A time for prayer

" Be still and know that I am God. "

Lord, have mercy
Christ, have mercy
Lord, have mercy

.. now, the Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those that
trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory
for ever and ever.

Amen.

.. now the 23rd Psalm, 'The Lord's My Shepherd'

The Lord is my shepherd: therefore can I lack nothing.
He shall feed me in a green pasture: and lead me forth
beside the waters of comfort.
He shall convert my soul:
and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness,
for his Name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff comfort me.

Thou shalt prepare a table before me
against them that trouble me:
thou hast anointed my head with oil,
and my cup shall be full.
But thy loving-kindness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

.. now think of the world, its needs, and your own

I remember before You the needs of others as well as my own.

Those who govern or who are in positions of authority -
may they act in the spirit of truth, justice and love

... those who minister the word of God -
may they be strengthened and always show God's love:
and guide themselves and others in his way in this world

... children - that parents, teachers, carers may show love and patience,
and work for all that is good against all that is evil

... the destitute and homeless,
that we should care for each other in deed and prayer

... all who care for those ill in body or mind -
that they may be sustained in their devotion and skill

... those who mourn - that they may be comforted and
live anew in your love for them and those they have loved

... those who suffer the effects of war or terrorism
- that peace may be brought
to heal them and those who have harmed them

... those suffering from disasters
- may we do more than look on
and may our compassion be practical and prayerful

... lastly, for me, in all my frailty, doubts, fears and hopes ...

Lord, these things I pray.

.. now, to end with The Grace

The grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ,

and the
love of God,

and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit,

be with us all
evermore.

Amen
