George Dench lived virtually all his life in Leatherhead, Surrey.

He was too young to see service in the First World War and too old for active service in the Second World War.

He carried the cross when leading the church choir to the dedication of Leatherhead's Town War Memorial.

He was closely involved with TOC H, and in WW2 saw one of his friends buried in his Parish Churchyard after being shot down by friendly fire.

In the London Blitz he was there night after night as an Auxiliary Fireman.

His 87 years of service to his Parish Church Choir is probably a record.

His was a lifetime of service to others and
taking part in the social life of the community.

These pages are a tribute to a local legend.
