He was then anointed by the Bishop of Dorking before being conducted to the Episcopal chair by the Archdeacon of Canterbury, for his Enthronement. Local dignitaries present included the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mrs Sarah Goad (representing HM The Queen), the High Sheriff of Surrey, Dr Grace Dowting, the Mayor and Mayoress of Guildford, and the Chairman of Surrey County Council, Mrs Sheila Gruselle.
Fifty-nine-year-old Bishop Christopher is married to Hilary and they have four grown up children, Vivian, Felicity, Adrian and Edmund. He has been Area Bishop of Stafford for the past eight years. Prior to that he was a Residentiary Canon at St Paul's Cathedral, London, and before that on the Archbishop's staff as adviser on Foreign Relations and Ecumenical Affairs.
